Match Labor’s commitment: fund three-year-old preschool
Daniel Andrews and the Victorian Labor Party have committed to fund 15 hours of preschool per week for every three-year-old in Victoria. This would be the single biggest investment in preschool education ever seen in Victoria.
Early childhood teachers, educators, parents and the community have campaigned over many years to achieve this, as we know the life changing impact it will have on our youngest Victorians.
Liberal Opposition Leader Matthew Guy has been silent on his commitment to properly support preschool education for three and four-year-olds. And, as a senior cabinet minister in the Baillieu/Napthine governments, he oversaw almost $2 billion in funding cuts to public schools and TAFEs.
For Matthew Guy and the Liberal party to be taken seriously on public education they must announce that they will fund 15 hours of preschool for every Victorian three-year-old and match Labor’s commitment, including funding for new and upgraded preschools and support for the workforce.
Why is this important?
More than 50% of three-year-olds are missing out on preschool because the fees are too expensive for many families. This means they are missing out on the best start in life.
We need to keep the pressure on Matthew Guy and the Liberals – our youngest can’t afford a government that doesn’t invest in three-year-old preschool. Together we can ensure high quality preschool education for every three-year-old Victorian child.
Imagine the difference that will make to their lives.
