The Australian Christian Lobby wants our hate laws suspended. They want laws that protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people (LGBTI) from hate speech and vilification to be waived so they can say whatever they like in their campaign against marriage equality.
That's just not fair - the laws should apply to everyone equally. It's also very scary - who knows what they want to say?
Don't let ACL get an exemption so they can break the law. Don't let them discriminate against LGBTI people - our families, friends and colleagues. Please help love win over hate and sign my petition.
Why is this important?
The Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) are pressuring the Federal Government to give them "exemption" from the Anti-Discrimination Act if there is a plebiscite on marriage equality. In other words, they want to break the law and discriminate against people in same-sex relationships.
This is wrong. We should all operate under the same rules and the same laws in this country. These laws protect people from hate speech, and bigotry - we need them in place all the time.
