To: Will Hodgman, Premier, Tasmania

It’s crunch time for weekend penalty rates. A decision is expected to be announced within the coming months on whether millions of Australians, including many Tasmanians, will face a pay cut because of the slashing of weekend rates.

We, the undersigned, note and welcome your previous stated support for maintaining existing weekend rates.

It’s now time for you to do more and stand up for weekend rates and weekend workers.

We, the undersigned, urge you to follow the lead of the Victorian, Queensland and South Australian Premiers, as well as the ACT Chief Minister, in writing to the Fair Work Commission in support of the maintenance of the current level of weekend rates.

Doing so will show the thousands of Tasmanians facing this cut that their premier supports them against a pay cut they can’t afford and don’t deserve.

Why is this important?

Despite claims to the contrary, weekends still mean something in Australia. Time with family and friends, relaxing, catching a match. But for many Australians, weekends mean work.

Despite positive federal election results for weekend workers (some of the most vocal critics of weekend rates are now gone from Federal Parliament) employers continue their campaign to cut weekend penalty rates.

We’re keeping on coming together to Save Our Weekend and defend weekend rates.
