After some 25 weeks of industrial action, the Visy Shepparton dispute has come to an end, with the members accepting an enhanced package from the company.
The members want to take a moment to express their heartfelt thanks to all the supporters. Had it not been that financial support and well wishes received, we certainly would not of achieved the end result.
Special thanks to all (who are far too many to individually) but to the officers and officials of the Victorian Branch who went above and beyond during these trying times.
Workers at Visy's Shepparton plant are fighting for fair pay and conditions in their new agreement. After 19 weeks of industrial action, their resolve has never been stronger!
While Visy rakes in record profits, workers are left with the scraps - rather than bargain with their workers, Visy has spent countless resources trying to attack workers in industrial action.
Visy needs to give their workers a fair shake - come to the table and negotiate with their workers!
Why is this important?
Visy Executive Chair, Anthony Pratt, is one of the wealthiest people in Australia, estimated to be worth $14 billion. But he’d prefer to replace their workforce than see them take home a living wage.
This dispute is an indictment on the current industrial laws that permit such power to bosses; and the dire consequences of corporate greed, 'trickle-down' economics, and the disrespect faced by workers in these industries.
Visy's Shepparton workers call upon all Visy workers across the country to stand up and fight back against the Pratt family's oppression!
