Woolies: Stop unfair roster changes that hurt workers' families!
"Woolworths is forcing me onto a new shift that does not enable me to care for my kids and my family responsibilities outside of work. It has a massive impact on my family and on my mental health. I'm just devastated that after 10 years of service Woolworths management would treat me like this. It's Disgusting!" - Woolies SRDC worker
Woolies has used COVID-19 as an excuse to change long term worker's rosters at a Sydney Regional Distribution Centre without any consultation, leaving them unable to fulfil their caring roles at home AND losing out on thousands per year in wages that they rely on to get by.
We are calling on Woolworths to treat their essential workforce with respect, genuinely consult with their employees and return to family friendly rosters that do not leave workers financially worse off.
Why is this important?
Woolies essential workforce at their Sydney Regional Distribution Centre have bent over backwards during the pandemic, agreeing to temporarily chop and change their shifts to give the company more flexibility during the crisis.
In return, Woolies has used workers willingness to make sacrifices to serve their community to sneakily change shifts permanently to make the company more money… all at the expense of worker’s families and pay!
Workers were not consulted on these changes. Some workers ,who have been there for 10 years working the same shift, have suddenly being given different rostered days when they have never worked those days before! This has left workers unable to spend time with their families or fulfil their obligations as carers.
Many workers are also losing out on pay because of the new shifts Woolies has assigned them. Some workers are losing up to $10,000 a year. That’s money they expected and rely on!
We are calling on Woolworths to genuinely consult with their workers and return to family friendly rosters that do not leave workers financially worse off.
