ANMF (Vic Branch)

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (Victoria Branch) is pleased to petition and campaign on nursing and midwifery issues and towards better health services within Victoria.
ANMF (Vic Branch) has a membership of more than 73,000 nurses, midwives and carers employed in a range of health services including hospitals, aged care, community health, mental health, maternal and child health and much more.
ANMF (Vic Branch) is committed to providing an opportunity for its members to discuss professional issues and undertake research in the pursuit of nursing and midwifery excellence and improved patient outcomes.
Our strong and unified membership has enabled us to make a real difference to nursing and midwifery in Victoria. Nurse/midwife patient ratios, qualification allowances, ADOs, pay rises, professional development leave, study leave, maternity leave, no-lifting policies, improved occupational health and safety standards and night duty allowances are just some of the conditions that have been achieved for many nurses, midwives and carers because ANMF (Vic Branch) members have worked together to achieve them.

Ratios Save LivesVictoria was the second place in the world to have legislated nurse/midwife patient ratios after California. Now we need your help to improve ratios to make our health care system better for patients, families, nurses and midwives who work in our hospitals Writing better ratios into law means that nurses and midwives will be able to deliver safer patient care. This isn't just about our health system in 2018 - it will future proof our health care system in Victoria as our state and the demand on health services continues to grow. Nurses, midwives and patients can't wait - we need the unamended Bill passed now.7,639 of 8,000 SignaturesCreated by ANMF Vic

Introduce ratios for Victoria's mental health nursesVictoria has gathered sixteen years of evidence of the success of nurse/patient ratios. This evidence has shown patient waiting times reduced in Victoria’s public hospitals. It has led to marked improvements in recruitment and retention of nurses as a result of safer working environments. Our public hospitals have also shown improved economic outcomes since ratios were introduced in 2001. Ratios brought about a 151 per cent increase in patients receiving same day treatment. The system works — it’s time to make Victoria’s public mental health care system a world leader by applying ratios to our mental health wards. New South Wales and Queensland have already introduced nursing ratios in mental health in their own public hospitals. For the full detail on how nursing ratios in mental health would work in Victoria, please check our log of claims: http://bit.ly/mhLOC Thank you for supporting our mental health nurses.900 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by ANMF (Vic Branch)

Be Fair Bupa: put resident care, staffing levels and nurses’ and carers’ wages before profitsWe are the nurses and carers who work in Bupa’s Victorian nursing homes. Bupa is a multi-national company, making multi-million dollar profits, with 26 nursing homes across Victoria. Bupa aged care nurses have made the difficult decision to take protected industrial action because we feel stretched and undervalued. Australian nursing homes are given funding for staff and wages. Yet, we find ourselves fighting for both. We’re asking Bupa for better staffing levels and skill mix (that’s the number of nurses and carers allocated to a number of residents each full shift) so we can improve resident care. We love caring for people who can no longer live at home. Many residents have multiple conditions, diseases and comorbidities and have very high complex nursing needs. Some need palliative care. Most require help with personal care needs. It’s intense, intimate and rewarding work. But it’s very hard to do our jobs well without enough staff. We’re also paid thousands of dollars less each year than our colleagues doing the same work. We’re asking for a wage increase that reflects the rising cost of living and that matches Bupa’s competitor nursing home groups such as Arcare, BlueCross, Royal Freemasons and AGSAG. Please sign our petition and tell Bupa to value, recognise and reward the people who care for elderly Victorians.
