Protect the Redundancy Entitlements of St John of God Health Care Workers

Respect Us header
At a time of uncertainty and job insecurity, a number of health staff previously employed at St John of God Health Care Mt Lawley Hospital are being drawn into a legal process to reduce their entitlements.

St John of God has applied to the Fair Work Commission to reduce their obligation to pay redundancy payments to their loyal employees who have been unable to be redeployed.

When St John of God sold Mt Lawley Hospital to the State Government for $80 million earlier this year, a group of staff who were not offered suitable redeployment opportunities were eligible for a redundancy payment.

Rather than pay them their full legal redundancy payment, St John of God has taken the unusual, and we say completely inappropriate, step of instigating a legal process to reduce what they pay to former staff.

We ask that St John of God Health Care withdraw its application to the Fair Work Commission and instead show genuine care towards the loyal workers who have helped build and sustain Mt Lawley Hospital’s legacy of excellent patient care.

Why is this important?

These health workers helped make Mt Lawley a respected hospital for patient care and a great place to work. Many have given years of service, contributed to the hospital’s reputation, and supported patients, families and colleagues through challenging periods. They deserve to be treated with dignity at the end of their employment, not subjected to an avoidable legal process that seeks to reduce their entitlements.

St John of God's application to reduce entitlements is particularly disappointing given the $80 million sale, alongside further government investment to support commissioning, transition, and ongoing public hospital services at Midland Hospital.

By signing this petition, you can urge St John of God to deliver health worker entitlements in full and resolve this matter in a way that reflects the values of respect, compassion and dignity that the organisation publicly espouses.

How it will be delivered

We will deliver the petition via email.
