To: To the Mayor and Councillors of Darebin City Council:

Save Clements Reserve!

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose Darebin Council’s March 2026 decision to abandon its 2018 commitment to acquire State Government land within Clements Reserve.

This decision exposes the McMahon Road frontage to private sale and development and puts at risk the visual amenity of the park and the environmental integrity of the Darebin Creek corridor.

We call on Darebin Council to take the following actions:

  • Reverse its March 2026 decision and recommit to acquiring all remaining State Government land within Clements Reserve, including the McMahon Road frontage, for permanent public open space
  • Immediately negotiate with the Victorian Government to secure the land at a fair and appropriately discounted price for community use
  • Work with local Members of Parliament, Mr Nathan Lambert, MP (Member for Preston) and Hon. Colin Brooks, MP (Member for Bundoora), to ensure this outcome is delivered
  • Reduce the number of trees that will be removed in the lead contamination zone during remediation
  • Improve maintenance of Clements Reserve as the grass is frequently not mown and garden beds are not weeded.
  • Protect and enhance the long-term environmental, recreational and community value of Clements Reserve and the Darebin Creek corridor

We therefore request that Darebin Council formally consider and act on these matters.

Why is this important?

This decision exposes the McMahon Road frontage to private sale and development and puts at risk the visual amenity of the park and the environmental integrity of the Darebin Creek corridor.

For more information please see: Clements Reserve at Risk!

How it will be delivered

The petition will be read out by a Councillor at a Darebin Council meeting.
