WA Christians call for an end to 'conversion therapy'

As Christians in Western Australia, we call upon Premier Mark McGowan to:
1. Determine the extent and prevalence of the ex-gay/ex-trans/conversion therapy movement in WA.
2. Introduce regulatory enforcement of the directives of Australian peak psychological and health bodies that prohibit the use of conversion therapy by mental health professionals.
3. Provide for greater powers for health complaints and consumer affairs authorities to support the sufficient investigation of conversion therapy.

Why is this important?
Testimonials and research about conversion therapy are very clear: it only harms people of faith, and their relationship with God.
We believe this deeply problematic approach to our LGBTQIA+ communities should be made illegal in our state of Western Australia. To suggest that our LGBTQIA+ family should be treated with such contempt is deplorable, even more so when being done in the name of Christ.
Christians With Pride is an ecumenical group of Christians, supported by St Andrew’s Anglican Church Subiaco. We come from many traditions, including Uniting, Churches of Christ, Catholic, Anglican, Baptist, Pentecostal and many more. Every year we march in the Perth Pride Parade to proclaim a gospel that includes, affirms and celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community.
We invite you and your faith communities to support us in this mission by:
1. Signing this petition against conversion therapy, to be presented to WA Premier Mark McGowan
2. Joining us at the upcoming Pride Parade, from 8pm on Saturday 24 November. It is a LOT of fun, and the crowd always gives us a great welcome. Plus, this year we are planning an extra special feature - a miniature ‘church’ building that we will be pulling along with a sign that reads ‘dragging the church into the future’. Here’s the link to the Facebook event - please click ‘interested’ or ‘going’: https://www.facebook.com/events/265536687483752
3. Contributing to this fundraising to build a model church to 'drag into the future' at the Perth Pride Parade. Click here to find out more: https://www.gofundme.com/dragging-the-church-into-the-future/donate
