Need more University and TAFE Campuses in the West.
We, the undersigned residents of Western Metro region, call upon the State Government of Victoria, local government authorities, and educational institutions to take immediate action to expand higher education opportunities in our community by:
- Establishing New Campuses: Facilitating the establishment of new university and TAFE campuses in the West to provide local access to quality higher education.
- Collaborating with Higher Education Institutions: Encouraging partnerships with existing universities and TAFEs to offer satellite campuses or learning hubs within our region.
- Investing in Infrastructure: Ensuring that the necessary infrastructure, including public transport and digital connectivity, supports the development and accessibility of these new educational facilities.
- Supporting Diverse Education Programs: Promoting a range of programs and courses that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our community, including vocational training, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, and continuing education opportunities.
Why is this important?
Background: Western Metro area is one of the fastest-growing regions in Victoria, with a diverse and vibrant community that values education and lifelong learning. Despite this growth, our area remains underserved in terms of access to higher education institutions. The current a smaller number of university and TAFE campuses forces many students to commute long distances, creating barriers to education and limiting opportunities for personal and professional development.
Rationale:
- Accessibility: Reducing the need for long commutes will make higher education more accessible to all residents, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Economic Growth: Local campuses will stimulate the economy by creating jobs, attracting businesses, and retaining talent in the West.
- Community Development: Educational institutions serve as cultural and intellectual hubs, fostering community engagement and collaboration.
- Future-Proofing: Investing in education is essential for preparing our workforce for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
By signing this petition, we express our strong support for these initiatives and urge the relevant authorities to take swift and decisive action to enhance higher education opportunities in Western Metro Region.
