Oppose the transfer of licence for Newcastle Private to Calvary Health Care
We are calling on the NSW Government to protect access to, and the delivery of, existing lawful healthcare, and ensure that any transfer of the Newcastle Private Hospital and Hunter Valley Private Hospital licences do not leave our community worse off.
We expect the Premier, Health Minister and local MPs to put the healthcare needs of our community first.
No loss of lawful healthcare.
No reduction in patient choice.
No one in our community left worse off.
We are requesting that NO licence transfer be approved without a legally enforceable guarantee of continued access to all existing lawful healthcare services.
This will:
- Prevent the loss of existing lawful healthcare services as a result of the licence transfer.
- Make continued provision of lawful healthcare an explicit condition of any licence transfer.
- Protect patient choice, autonomy and equitable access to healthcare across Newcastle and the Hunter.
- Ensure our community is not disadvantaged by a change in hospital operator.
- Hold the NSW Government accountable for considering the impact of its decision on patients and our community.
We request you make representations to the NSW Government, specifically Chris Minns and Ryan Park opposing the transfer of licences to Calvary Health Care.
If the NSW Government cannot guarantee that our community will retain the same level of access to existing lawful healthcare services, it should not approve the transfer of the hospital licence.
Why is this important?
Access to IVF, reproductive, contraceptive and gender affirming care as well as voluntary assisted dying should not be determined by an operators religious beliefs.
Transfer of licence to Calvary Health Care means these services will no longer be available to our community.
Newcastle Private Hospital is currently the only private hospital in the region and for an extended area beyond the Newcastle and Hunter regions that provides obstetric/maternity care. It is also one of few private hospitals providing gender affirming care in NSW. Protection of the services offered here is paramount for the safety and wellbeing of our community.
