Protect Our Aged and Disability Services

We need the Horsham Rural City Council to continue to provide age and disability services to the elderly and vulnerable residents of our community. They must not outsource these vital services.

Why is this important?

We can’t forget about our older community members. They deserve to be cared for and looked after. Some are not fortunate to have family or friends to advocate on their behalf.

The aim of home and community care services like Meals on Wheels, assistance with showering, shopping and cleaning is to keep the older members of our community in their own home and out of aged care facilities.

Many other councils throughout Victoria have privatise and outsource these services. And those who deliver these services are some of the lowest paid workers predominately female workers.

We as a community cannot afford for these services to be privatised.

Reasons for signing

  • Elderly parents and in-laws that use these services.
  • We need to look after & value our older residents as well as the aged care workers & disability workers and plan for the continuation of quality care as we are an ageing community and also keep them engaged with the whole community.
  • My mother is one affected by these changes. She is a widow and still lives at home. None of her children live close. This is her only support in the community.
