Public Transport to Avalon for Geelong workers ! WE WON !
Geelong needs better public transport! With unemployment at 21.3% in Norlane and 12.7% in Corio, skilled workers are missing out on jobs at Avalon Employment Precinct simply because they can't get there or can't afford to take up jobs there. A direct public transport link would give locals fair access to employment and save workers time and money, directly addressing their cost of living.
We demand action now! The government must prioritize a direct public transport link between Geelong and Avalon to support jobs, boost the economy, and promote greener travel.
Update - The State Government has announced that it will begin a bus service between Lara Station and the Avalon precinct this year.

Why is this important?
Local workers are faced with the prospect of hour-long commutes and taxi fares of $60/day to travel the 13kms from his home in Corio to get to work at nearby Avalon Employment Precinct.
Local organizations see the problem first hand—over 30% of gforce clients and 50% of Meli's Northern Futures participants face transport barriers. Rising fuel costs and climate concerns make sustainable travel urgent. Reliable public transport would ease commuting costs, cut congestion, and lower emissions.
Currently the northern suburbs are literally a poverty trap for many residents - we can do better than this for our residents.
