We call on Prof Dewar to reverse the proposed course cuts in the Schools of Education and Humanities and invest real resources into regional Victoria.
La Trobe Uni has a moral obligation to provide good-paying jobs and a quality education to all regions.
The proposed cuts will have a disproportionate impact on regional Victoria. Regional students will be missing out on an important on-campus experience compared to their metro counterparts.
It is vital for a functional society that the University ensures a diverse range of education and humanities subjects are offered.
Totally online courses mean a second-class education, yet students will pay same fees as if face-to-face.
There must be equality of opportunity for students in regional and metropolitan areas. The university has a responsibility to serve regional areas and must not become even more urban centric.
A hummanites education is the cornerstone of all knowledge production and critical to the functional of a fair, just and livable society.
