Save our Out of Hospital Nurses (otherwise known as Hospital Avoidance Nurses)

Waiting times are set to surge at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

That is when funding will run out for this health network’s four valuable Out of Hospital Nurses (otherwise known as Hospital Avoidance Nurses).

Each day these nurses divert about 20 patients, where appropriate, from Emergency Departments (EDs) to suitable services close by, reducing pressure on our tired system.

We are urging State Minister for Health and Wellbeing Chris Picton MP not to scrap funding for this important service.

Why is this important? Our healthcare system is on the brink of collapse, with significant blockages impacting our EDs every day.

Out of Hospital Nurses play a vital role in easing this pressure on EDs and flow on effects for entire hospitals. Hospital staff recognise the value of this important service – we are urging Minister Picton to do the same.
