Show us we are valued: Protect Our Entitlements

At St John of God Mount Lawley Hospital, we are dedicated and caring health workers, whose expertise is crucial to support a fully functioning health system and community.

People rely on us during the most vulnerable moments of their lives. We were there for the community throughout the pandemic and more recently, a record-breaking flu season in 2025, which has continued to place significant strain on our health system and workers.

Expanding publicly run services is much needed to improve the capacity of WA Health, however, it should not be at the expense of health workers and our futures.

The WA Government and WA Health should be an employer of choice. We are disappointed to learn that East Metropolitan Health Services has decided not to recognise workers' continuity of service or transfer our personal leave entitlements if we accept an offer to stay on at Mount Lawley after it transitions to public ownership.

A solution was found for Peel Health Campus in August 2024; now we are calling on you, Minister Hammat and Minister McGurk, to find a solution for workers at Mount Lawley.

It is apparent that St John of God is determined to move quickly in the transition, putting significant stress on employees.

Workers are being asked to make decisions that will have long-lasting ramifications on our careers and financial futures.

We deserve to be recognised for our long-term dedication as health workers and have our personal leave balances honoured.

We, the undersigned, strongly urge you to reconsider your decision and ask you to advocate on our behalf as leaders in the Cook Government, to ensure our entitlements are not lost, but instead, are protected and acknowledged.
