Stop City of Sydney contracting waste services!

The City of Sydney are proposing a variation to the current Cleanaway contract to Council seeking endorsement to amend the Contract Service Area to the whole of the local government area to be endorsed by Council.

The City are taking the easy cheap road of contracting out garbage services instead of retaining a good well trained labour workforce and once it’s gone it won’t be coming back.

Over time the contracted prices will rise costing more than the current day labour workforce.
Waste Services members that work in Garbage Services at the City have provided an effective and efficient service to the community for many years.

Waste Services members will go out of their way to go above and beyond for the residents of the local government area.

Waste Services members know and treat the residents with respect and have come to know those that need special help.

This is because they love what they do and have been dedicated employees for many years.

This is what they do. They are professionals.

What this will mean for our existing members?

The City are indicating existing employees will be transferred out of Garbage Services to comparable positions within Cleansing Operations.
But this is not what they do. They are the employees that have been doing the same job for many years providing waste removal for the residents.

To be replaced by contractors is not good enough for a City that speaks so highly of values and respect.

Why is this important?

It's important because we want these services to continue to be operated by council.
