Workplace safety includes toilet facilities

Not all workers currently have access to clean, sanitary, safe and suitable bathrooms in Australia.

It’s a basic right, and it is an issue of health and safety that disproportionately affects women.

Why is this important?

In historically male-dominated occupations such as blue-collar trades, amenities for workers are often an afterthought or not provided at all. When they do exist, they are often very unhygienic, unsanitary, far away from the worksite, locked or in an unsafe location.

The effects are worse for women who have a wider range of needs for bathroom amenities such as menstruation, pregnancy, breastfeeding and more.

The laws that regulate bathrooms and amenities in workplaces MUST be updated to force companies and workplaces to follow the rules and provide good amenities for ALL workers.

The more support we have in this campaign, the more likely we’ll be able to force positive change and make our workplaces safer and more inclusive for everyone.

How it will be delivered

We want to achieve the maximum amount of signatures by International Toilet Day 19th November to deliver to Safe Work regulators

Exciting update – our campaign has hit a milestone! Safework SA is cracking down & creating change on workplace amenities Here is what the Adelaide Advertiser said: “A safe construction site starts with the fundamental basics of having a clean toilet, equipped with the necessary facilities,” he said.
These changes within Safework SA wouldn't have been possible without the work of people like Erin and Rachel who are tradies SA & their union the CEPU! We have governments listening to workers on the issue, & having a significant number signing the petition will build on this momentum & bring more people into our movement. We want health and safety laws in this country to mandate the minimum standards for workplace amenities to ensure they are suitable, hygienic, accessible and open – for every worker.

18 days until International Toilet Day and 1800 signatures! Woot. Fon't flush this opportunity to improve workplace safety down the drain. Ask your friends, family and colleagues to sign the petition too. The 10 recommendations from this paper will improve workplace conditions for all workers in Australia.
