Support your Nurses and Midwives: We can't hold on forever

Dear Minister / Member of the Legislative Assembly,
I want to know how much you care about the Health of Territorians?
I want to know how much you care about the Health of Territorians?
As a member of the Northern Territory community, I want to know that when I, my family, or someone in my community needs health care, there will be enough skilled nurses and midwives there to provide it safely. The Territory is losing good quality staff everyday due to being over worked, burned out and carrying the weight of Health Service delivery on their shoulders. With the rising cost of living Nurses and Midwives need your help.
The ANMF NT is asking for an 18% pay increase over three years, to keep the Territory nationally competitive and a retention bonus that values nurses and midwives that stay in the NT.
I am asking you, as an elected representative, to:
· support a fair outcome for NT nurses and midwives in their current enterprise agreement negotiations;
· support measures that improve recruitment and retention of experienced nurses and midwives;
· support safe workloads and working conditions that protect both staff and patients; and
This is not only about nurses and midwives. It is about the health care available to every Territorian.
So I ask you directly:
Do you care about the health of Territorians?
If you do, what will you do to support the nurses and midwives who care for us?
Why is this important?
Nurses and midwives work across our hospitals, health centres, remote communities, maternity services, mental health services and community care. They are an essential part of the health system, but the Territory must be able to attract experienced staff, retain the workforce it already has, and provide working conditions that allow people to build long-term careers here.
