Urgent vaccination of education staff is essential for their protection as well as the protection of students and their communities. It will also reduce the need in future to move to remote learning, which is so disruptive for students and parents. Most importantly, it is a key public safety measure to slow the spread of future outbreaks. Childcare, kinder and pre-school workers are, in many cases, continuing to work in very high-contact workplaces even when schools and TAFEs move to remote learning. The slow pace of the vaccine rollout, the lack of supply of vaccines and the failure to heed the call to prioritise education workers is putting staff, students and the broader community at risk.

After almost six weeks on strike, United Workers Union members at McCormick voted to accept a new offer from the company. For five years McCormick has worked to slash hard-won conditions and offered a 0% pay rise. After almost six weeks on strike, McCormick workers have managed to retain all the conditions and won a fair pay rise. The offer includes: - Retaining ALL previous conditions the company wanted to remove including the 4 day week roster - 9% pay rise across 3 years - $5000 sign on bonus From the start, workers knew this was bigger than just one site. This has been a fight for respect for all essential workers who toiled through the pandemic, while their companies made massive profits, only to be told that there was no money for a pay rise and that workers had to accept what they were given. But McCormick workers drew a line in the sand and said enough is enough. This win has shown that when workers stand united, they can win! Thank you to the more than 1250 people who donated, to the unions who supported workers on the ground and anyone who attended the strike or took action to support these workers! We are a mighty movement!

BREAKING: Eleven Hospo Voice members at the Titanic Williamstown have won back more than $5000 in stolen wages and super. This battle’s been epic and inspiring. Workers got organised and joined Hospo Voice. They spoke out on Fair Plate, then in the media. They used our Member Hub tools & resources. They got huge public support. And stood ready to go all the way, including covering Williamstown in some oar-some union posters to shame the Titanic. That's what it took to win back their stolen wages and get solid proof the Titanic is making repayments to the ATO for their stolen super, which was finally provided. Rumour has it the Titanic is keen to reopen soon, but with one member still in negotiations over his outstanding wages and leave, we stand ready to turn up the pressure again at a moment’s notice. Worker win! Because of the pressure of thousands of workers in union, Channel 10 have refused George Calombaris' contract demands, sending a signal that wage theft won't be tolerated by the community. He will not return for the next season of MasterChef.

Workers at Pampas voted to accept a revised company offer and return to work. This is a historic win. Workers at Pampas stood strong for four weeks on strike. This was a struggle against casualisation. Workers at Pampas backed each other all the way. Workers at Pampas said all workers need job security, all workers need sick leave, all workers need access to paid time off. All workers are equal. EnergyAustralia has announced plans to help coal plant workers transition from jobs at its Yallourn power station – due to retire in 2028 – to the Elanora Offshore wind farm project, proposed for off the coast of Victoria. Although the plan is banking on Elanora Offshore securing a Feasibility Licence, EnergyAustralia’s Job Upskilling and Matching Program (JUMP) aims to help Yallourn workers on a new employment path. We've got some great news. Last night the Lismore City Council reconsidered the application for a part-day local holiday in 2020 and 2021 which it rejected in December. But this time the Council voted in favour of the holiday! That means workers in the Lismore Local Government Area will have a half-day public holiday on Thursday 24 September 2020, and on Thursday 23 September 2021. By signing this petition, you played an important role in convincing Lismore Councillors that local workers deserve a break.
